Harry's singing and recording career started as recent as February 2005 when he performed at the Dockside Theatre in Cape Town together with six other bands. He was welcomed by two well known South African musicians to their recording studios. They were prepared to play, produce and mix albums, with Harry performing the vocals.
Harry's first two albums, African Tributes to David Gates and Perry Como produced by musicians Tim Hoare and Tony Drake respectfully, were hugely exciting for him. Harry has always loved singing and admired artists with good voices, which are comfortable to listen too.
Both albums were well received in Cape Town because of the beautiful melodies and lyrics of the songwriters and warm easy listening voices of the performers. Harry has favoured performing songs sung by the great singers of yesteryear and has had tremendous fun finding old long playing records, listening to them and extracting those which he wanted to sing and produce. Harry and Tony have produced the following further albums:
Signatures- Comprises songs sung by 13 different artists
It's a Lovely Day Today: My Memories of Perry Como -
These 20 songs tell you why I so admire the man. The appeal of producing & performing these songs is the knowledge that they were sung by a man who led such an exemplary lifestyle in both his career and personal life.
Harry has performed at a number of theatres, wine and golf estates and clubs in Cape Town over the past few years where he has been well received. He has always been sensitive to the well being of the elderly who are often neglected in our world today. This has prompted him to perform at many retirement centres throughout Cape Town. The joy these songs bring back to the elderly is hugely rewarding for both them and Harry.
When developing his website, Harry felt that it would be too shallow a record without his family and friends. A record of these people and events having taken place in Harry's life, is what makes up Harry Curtis.
